Craniosacral Therapy

Gentle touch. Whole-body listening.
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle form of hands-on care that uses light, sustained contact to work with the body as a connected whole.
During a session, I use my hands to listen for subtle differences in movement, tension and ease throughout the body. Treatment is responsive rather than forceful, I follow what I feel beneath my hands and allow the body time to respond rather than trying to make change happen.
Although the name craniosacral refers to the cranium and sacrum, a session is not necessarily limited to the head and pelvis. Treatment may involve different areas of the body and may include quiet holds, gentle movement, stillness or spontaneous unwinding as the session progresses.

The physical and emotional experience.
Our experiences are not always expressed in purely physical ways. Occasionally, while the body is settling or unwinding during Craniosacral Therapy, a person may notice an unexpected emotion, memory, image, thought or sensation arise.
When this occurs, it does not need to be analyzed, explained or even discussed. You remain in control of how much, or how little, you wish to explore.
My advanced Craniosacral Therapy training includes SomatoEmotional Release (SER), an approach that allows me to support these moments when they naturally arise as part of treatment. Depending on your comfort and what is happening within the session, that support may simply mean remaining quietly present, or it may include gentle conversation while continuing the hands-on work.
SER is not psychotherapy or counselling, and I do not diagnose, interpret memories, assign meaning to emotional responses or direct you toward a particular conclusion. My role is to provide a respectful, supportive environment while allowing you to experience your own response in your own way and at your own pace.

What can I expect?
Craniosacral Therapy is performed fully clothed on a treatment table and uses very light touch. Because treatment is guided by what is happening within your body at that particular time, sessions can vary considerably from one visit to another.
Some people experience profound relaxation or stillness. Others notice changes in tension, warmth, movement or other physical sensations. The body may occasionally move or gently unwind, and sometimes an emotional response occurs. There is no response that you are supposed to have, and emotional release is never a goal or requirement of treatment.
Craniosacral Therapy is an invitation to slow things down, listen carefully, and give your body space to respond without force.

Beyond the Table
A Craniosacral Therapy session doesn't necessarily end when you get off the table. The hands-on portion of treatment may be complete, but your body may continue to respond, integrate and heal afterward.
The physical changes that began during treatment may continue to settle and reorganize, while emotional experiences that surfaced during the session may also continue to unfold and integrate in their own time.
You may notice changes immediately, later that day, or over the days that follow. At other times, the process may be so subtle that you don't consciously notice it at all.
There is nothing you need to force or accomplish. The treatment creates an opportunity for change; your body does the healing.
